Tedford has given 27 full-rides to nonscholarship players

Cal linebacker Justin Moye remembers some long freshman nights when he was searching for reassurance. On most of those nights, the encouragement came from his father. "It's tough going from being 'The Man' in high school to battling just to be on a squad," said Moye's father, Jeff, who was a starting cornerback on the Bears' last conference championship team in 1975. "I mean, you're going from being a star to being the water boy, but the reward is definitely worth the work."
