The Tennessean: Vols football: Special teams vital to success

By CHRIS LOW

KNOXVILLE - It's the sixth of Gen. Robert Neyland's seven game maxims: Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made. Last season, the kicking game pressed Tennessee and ultimately broke the Vols.  Nobody knows that better than Coach Phillip Fulmer, who still fumes when somebody broaches the Vols' litany of special teams gaffes last season. The blocked field goals, punt returns allowed for touchdowns, fumbled punts, ill-fated fake punts and sea of penalties on returns still haunt Fulmer.  In short, special teams were a disaster a year ago - and so was the season.
