NCAA Football Preview - California Golden BearsPhiladelphia, PA -- (Sports Network) - 2005 SEASON IN REVIEW: The Golden Bears posted their fourth consecutive winning season in 2005, amassing a solid 8-4 mark. Cal stormed out of the gates with a 41-3 victory over Sacramento State despite losing its starting quarterback to a broken leg. The Golden Bears continued to flex their offensive muscle in their second contest, defeating Washington, 56-17. Coach Jeff Tedford's squad continued to roll, winning three consecutive games over Illinois, New Mexico State and Arizona, outscoring those foes by a combined 104-33. Unfortunately, the Bears hit a wall, losing two straight to UCLA (47-40) and Oregon State (23-20). California was able to rebound with a slim 42-38 victory over Washington, but the momentum was short-lived as the team suffered another two- game skid, falling to Oregon, 27-20 in overtime, which was followed by a harsh 35-10 drubbing by USC. Cal closed out its regular slate with a 27-3 win over Stanford and earned a bid to the Las Vegas Bowl to face BYU. That contest was much tougher than expected, but the Golden Bears pulled out a 35-28 victory.
