SF Chronicle:Cal's defense plays catch-up

When Cal senior cornerback Daymeion Hughes picked off Nate Longshore's second pass of practice Saturday, the team's first double-day, it sent a message.  "We really wanted to bounce back, because we felt that the mistakes we made yesterday were due to technique," Hughes said.  The defense was burned for five long touchdown passes during a six-play stretch Friday. Three of the passes were from Longshore and two were from senior Joe Ayoob.
