SF Chronicle: Bears are looking for some action

Cal doesn't have its first practice in full pads until Friday, but the players are already itching for a little more contact.  "They've been working out all summer long, and there's only so much running and lifting you can do before you need real football," coach Jeff Tedford said. "They're excited for real football."  The defensive backs set the tone Wednesday, the first practice in shoulder pads, by piling up some big hits. The loudest shot of the day was delivered by senior cornerback Tim Mixon, who drilled Sam DeSa while he was trying to catch a receiver screen.
