Oakland Tribune: Mack ready to fill big shoes at center

Wearing size 15s, Cal's 6-5, 300-pound soph to succeed Philip

BERKELEY — To Alex Mack, it all comes down to the size of his feet. "I have big shoes to fill," he said. "I'm trying hard. I want to meet everyone's expectations."  Mack is Cal's new football center, succeeding Marvin Philip, a two-time All-Pac 10 selection and a first-team All-America as a junior who's now with the Pittsburgh Steelers.  It's Philip's shoes that Mack is trying to fill, even though it would be a tight squeeze. For Philip wears size 14 shoes, while Mack wears size 15.
