BERKELEY, Calif. - Cal junior wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins made a catch during practice, then backpedaled as he tried to turn a 10-yard gain into something bigger. He quickly was buried by three defensive players as he lost about 5 yards of his initial gain. Bears coach Jeff Tedford sprinted to the scene of Hawkins' crime, and wrapped up his criticism of the play with a few choice words. Hawkins sprung to his feet, gave Tedford a little pat on the back - kind of a "you're exactly right, coach" statement - and headed back to the huddle. It's obvious that the two are on the same page now.
