SF Chronicle: Cal's Jackson filling end zones, highlight shows

SCORING WITH STYLE

In just a season and a half, Cal receiver DeSean Jackson has burst onto the collegiate scene sporting a bevy of skills that are being compared to Rocket Ismail, Desmond Howard and Reggie Bush, some of the most dynamic college football players in recent history.  ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit already puts Jackson in that class.  "Let's put DeSean Jackson in the Heisman discussion," Herbstreit said during Saturday's broadcast of the Cal-Oregon game. "That guy is a player, and he's as good as there is in college football. I've been watching DeSean Jackson all season, and I don't know if people nationally fully appreciate his abilities.  "I'm so impressed with his competitive spirit. He's one of those guys who always wants the ball, and he's dangerous on special teams. People nationally need to start paying attention to No. 1 on the Cal Bears. He's the real deal."  The comments were prompted by Jackson's highlight-filled, 65-yard punt return for a touchdown and his eighth consecutive game with a receiving score, which is tied for the longest active streak in the nation.
