Alumni News: McNair's injury opens the door for Boller
Kyle Boller, the former Cal quarterback now with Baltimore, entered Sunday's game against Carolina when Steve McNair was left woozy after a first-quarter sack. Boller had been relegated to backup duty since the Ravens acquired McNair in an off-season trade with Tennessee. He completed 17 for 31 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns, with one interception. ``I had an opportunity to go out there and do some things, but we came up short,'' Boller said after the 23-21 defeat. ``All I can do is go out there and give my best and try and move the ball.'' McNair suffered a concussion and a neck sprain on the sack by Carolina's Mike Rucker and Chris Draft. Tests, though, showed no structural damage.
