Visit www.CoachoftheYear.com to Support Golden Bear Mentor

Sept. 28, 2006

BERKELEY - California football fans have the chance to support head coach Jeff Tedford by voting for the Golden Bear mentor for the 2006 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award. Visit http://www.coachoftheyear.com and fill out a ballot each and every day to show the nation the value that the Bear leader has to Cal and its fans.  As of Monday morning, Oct. 16, Tedford was ranked No. 8 in Division IA and No. 1 in the Pac-10.

The Liberty Mutual award is designed to honor the college football coach who best exemplifies responsibility and excellence on and off the field. A selection committee including members of the College Football Hall of Fame, the national media and fans will help choose the winner.

The Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year will be selected on their professional competence and achievement, commitment to well-being and development of student-athletes, high ethical standards, and civic and charitable stewardship. The honoree will receive $100,000 to support his civic and charitable activities. In addition, Liberty Mutual will grant $20,000 in scholarships to the alumni association of the winning coach's school.

Following the initial fan voting, which concludes on November 5, a second phase (Nov. 8 - 20), features online fan voting for 10 finalists, each of whom will be judged individually by the selection committee.

The 10 finalists will be profiled on a one-hour ABC special on Dec. 9 at 4 p.m. (Pacific) and the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award will be presented to the winner on ABC on Dec. 16 at 4 p.m. (Pacific).

(Thanks to Jeremy for the heads up on this).
