Oregonian: Credit for California's yellow duds lost in the wash

Getting to the bottom of California's decision to wear yellow uniforms for last week's 45-24 victory over Oregon has been difficult, but it's beginning to look like a psychological ploy by Cal coach Jeff Tedford.   The Ducks have made headlines for their "lightning" uniforms. So Tedford apparently decided to appropriate Oregon's mojo -- not that he will admit it.   He was still insisting this week that some Cal players requested yellow, which has been available to the Golden Bears all season. "The players normally cast their votes, 'Coach, how about this for this week?,' " Tedford said. "I don't ask them as a whole. They usually come to me and we kind of talk about it. It's not something I think about."

Which, naturally, led to the follow-up question: which players?  "It must have been a group of them," Tedford said. "I can't remember which two or three of them came to me."  None of the players available at Cal's Tuesday media luncheon remembers having that conversation with Tedford -- or even hearing about such a conversation until after the game.  "No one told him we should wear those," quarterback Nate Longshore said. "He wanted those jerseys. So we wore them. When the boss says you do something, you do it."  Told that Tedford was sticking to his story, Longshore looked doubtful.  "Uh, I don't know if I believe him," he said.
