Seattle Post Intelligencer: Pac-10: Cal gets weary of Vols flashback

By TED MILLER

Cal quarterback Nate Longshore understood the game immediately.  Asked if he could eliminate in advance a topic that might come up in an interview, he sighed, "Tennessee."  "We're so sick of talking about it," he said. "Every week we're doubted because of that one game. It's going to happen all year, and we're expecting it. It just gets old." A writer promised Golden Bears coach Jeff Tedford that he wouldn't mention Tennessee, only to be busted by Tedford 45 seconds later.

"See! No one can ask a question without bringing that up," he said.  Tedford and Longshore seem almost begrudgingly amused -- almost -- that the season-opening 35-18 bludgeoning at Tennessee continues to cast a dark shadow over their season, at least from a national perspective. Though the Bears bounced back with four consecutive victories by an average margin of 27 points, they've become skeptical that even a victory over No. 11 Oregon on Saturday could completely restore their image.
