WATE Knoxville Television Sports Anchor Jim Wogan: Cal Not So Cozy

From Jim Wogan’s blog, located here, where you can leave a comment:

“Much is made of the Vols not playing pushovers in their season opener. UT likes to tout the fact they have faced teams like UCLA, Syracuse, and Southern Miss to start the year. It good for the fans, and for the program. And in a way, UT’s braggin’ rights are legit. But there is more here than meets the eye. Despite playing some high-profile opponents, the Vols have never been the lesser-ranked team in a season-opener during the Fulmer era– until this year. Cal comes to Knoxville as a pre-season top-ten team. The Vols are unranked. THAT has never happened under Fulmer, and hasn’t happened to the Vols since 1990, when Tennessee opened against Colorado.  Fulmer was burned by high expectations last year. For the first time in a long time, the Vols won’t have that worry this year.”
