BERKELEY — Two years ago, when Cal football coach Jeff Tedford went looking for a punter, he flew to Australia to meet the parents of David Lonie.
This year, Tedford only had to travel to Mission Viejo to visit the parents of his new punter, Andrew Larson. "Much shorter trip," Tedford joked. "Orange County." Lonie, from Palm Beach, Australia, began punting at an Iowa junior college before transferring to Cal in 2004. He averaged 41.1 yards over two seasons, earning a free-agent contract with the Washington Redskins.
