SF Chronicle: Random Thoughts on Cal

Jake Curtis

-- Marshawn Lynch's tender ankle looks like it might be an issue the rest of the season.

-- Justin Forsett has rushed for more than 150 yards four times in his career, which is one more time than Lynch has.

-- Does anyone throw the deep ball better than Nate Longshore?

-- Although there is no such thing as a shut-down cornerback, Daymeion Hughes comes pretty close.

-- Oregon running back Jonathan Stewart, whose 7.9 yards per carry average entering Saturday was the second best in the nation among players averaging more than 100 yards per game, had 25 yards on 18 carries against the Bears (1.4 yards a carry). Eight of his 18 carries were for a loss or no gain.

-- Cal wide receiver DeSean Jackson has scored 60 points. Only five Division I-A players have scored more, and they are all running backs.

-- No one seems to want to take credit for authorizing the gaudy yellow jerseys Cal wore for the first time Saturday. Coach Jeff Tedford said the players chose them, and Longshore said it was Tedford's decision.

-- We can only hope Jessica Simpson, who has two tickets for each Cal home game left for her at the gate by Longshore, will deem it worthy to attend one of the Bears' remaining games at Memorial Stadium. No word yet.
