SF Chronicle: Cal tight end the strong, silent type

Oregon coach Mike Bellotti simply fell into the same trap as all of Cal's opponents when discussing the Bears' explosive offense. "Marshawn Lynch is one of the best backs in the country," he said. "I have nothing but good things to say about Nate Longshore, and he's got three great receivers." Oh yeah ... "And they have a really good tight end, too."  Junior tight end Craig Stevens is often overlooked by opposing coaches, but his team knows his importance to an offense averaging 452 yards a game.  "Look, Craig's never going to carry the sweep, and he's not going to run a thousand deep routes for you," special teams/tight ends coach Pete Alamar said, "but he's really important in the running game, because he makes that sweep go, and he's important in the passing game, because he helps move the chains."
