Contra Costa Times: Bears Make a Statement...In Fashion

BERKELEY — Quarterback Nate Longshore shook his head when he was told that his fellow players picked out the uniforms — banana yellow jerseys, blue pants — that the Bears wore in beating Oregon on Saturday. "He wanted those jerseys," Longshore said of coach Jeff Tedford.  But, Nate, coach Tedford insisted a few select players came to him and picked out that combination. "I don't know if I believe him," Longshore said with a laugh.

"Those uniforms were awesome," said Cal linebacker Zack Follett. "I knew we were going to come out in them. It gave us a new swagger."  Follett said Tedford set up a fashion show for the Bears during training camp, dressing the linebackers in different combinations and then asking the players to react.  Did anything get a negative reaction? "Yellow on yellow," Follett said. "No one will go for that. (Anthony) Felder dressed in yellow on yellow and the whole team booed."  Cal center Alex Mack said he isn't too concerned about fashion. "I'll wear whatever they give us," Mack said. "I think some people worry too much about what they look like."  But, Alex, did you like Saturday's outfit?  "Yellow is not slimming," he said.
