Arizona Daily Star: Cal has opportunity to forget only defeat

By Patrick Finley

Jeff Tedford sounds happy to have another big matchup to talk about. The Cal coach is preparing for the biggest game of the conference season thus far when the No. 16 Golden Bears host No. 11 Oregon. And to hear Tedford tell it, it might get the Tennessee game off everyone's minds. The Golden Bears (4-1) lost their season opener in Knoxville 35-18 after trailing 35-3 in the third quarter. "I've never seen such a hangover from one game," Tedford said. "Now we're into the sixth game of the year and people are still talking about the first game. It's like that thing has hung with us for six weeks now.  "At some point, hopefully we can put that one outing behind us."  A win Saturday would do it. The 4-0 Ducks have the best offense and defense in the Pac-10. They average more than 40 points per game, a conference high, and are first in the Pac-10 and 11th in the nation in fewest passing yards allowed. "It's two very high-scoring offensive football teams," Oregon coach Mike Bellotti said. "Something's gotta give, obviously. It's gonna be a major collision."  Arizona State's Dirk Koetter has lost to both Oregon and Cal — by a combined 63 points.   "I just think the Tennessee game was an anomaly," he said. "If those teams played on a neutral field, or if they played at Cal, it could be totally different."
