Cal coach Jeff Tedford is known for developing quarterbacks under his tutelage into first-round draft picks. On Sunday two of his protégés meet when David Carr and Houston travel to face Kyle Boller and Baltimore. But as Carr rounds out his fourth season and Boller his third, the question of whether Tedford's pupils can become true N-F-L stars remains. Carr had the disadvantage of starting for an expansion team as a rookie which certainly hurt his progress. Before this season he was steadily improving, but seems to be reverting in Houston's dismal 1-and-10 season. He threw for a season-high 293 yards last week, but has also had games of 48 and 70 yards this year. Boller missed seven games with a toe injury and has lost three of the four games he was healthy for. His worst performance came last week in a three fumble, two interception day in a loss to Cincinnati. He has more interceptions (7) than touchdowns (4) this season.
