Given the economy, I've been surprised to see a fair number of Terps fans walking around Berkeley, where the skies were blue on Friday and the temperatures barely hit 70 during the day. It will be downright chilly by tonight's game time. Some of the fans live nearby, of course, but others made the trip to the West Coast. I know because I saw some on my flight out here.
Among those I saw walking around was Maryland president C.D. Mote Jr. He attended Berkeley, by the way, and was a professor at the school. Another "fan" who stopped by Maryland's walk-through is former Terps receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, now with the Oakland Raiders. That's according to Fridge on Twitter. Cal, whose colors are blue and gold, has called for a "blue out" at venerable Memorial Stadium, which is undergoing construction that has blocked off some of the stadium's exterior.
One more note: Memorial Stadium has synthetic turf. It looks like a fast track -- a boon for speedy receivers and kick returners. I'll be blogging before, during and after the game.
