Ready to bid a personal farewell to the Cal football team before it flies to Minnesota? Ready to wish the Bears luck and remind them how important their first away game of the season really is? If you hurry, you should still be able to catch them. If you run, you might be able to watch the team bus drive off into the ... oh ... wait, what? They left already? They left yesterday?! Well, it looks like they didn't need your advice -- they already know that tomorrow's game against the Golden Gophers is a big one.
Not because Cal is facing its toughest opponent so far (which it is, although that isn't saying much). Not because a loss to Minnesota would hurt the Bears' postseason goals (which it most certainly would). Like it or not, tomorrow's game is important simply because of its location: not Berkeley. During coach Jeff Tedford's tenure at Cal, the Bears haven't been the most valiant of visitors. They've finished in the top half of the Pac-10 in six of the last seven seasons, but they've won less than half of their away games in that span.
