Contra Costa Times: THREE KEYS TO BEATING USC

1. TURNOVERS: USC leads the Pac-10 with a plus-12 turnover margin, having forced 23 and given up only 11. Cal is minus-three (20 turnovers, 17 takeaways).

2. BALL CONTROL: In a victory over Oregon, USC ran 81 offensive plays. Against Arizona State, it ran 88. In both instances, USC opponents were unable to establish a running game. Notre Dame, which nearly defeated USC, rushed for 153 yards and limited the Trojans to 64 offensive snaps.

3. BIG PLAYS: As Cal coach Jeff Tedford says, the only time teams have hung with USC was when they made big plays. The Bears need a few "Wow!" touchdowns to have a chance. Cue Marshawn Lynch.
