• Best case: The computers like the Golden Bears (they're fourth there this week, although there are two teams with losing records left on the schedule). They need to keep winning and get some help to get to Glendale. The Rose Bowl would be a nice consolation prize.

• Worst case: The Pacific 10 title also slips away, and the Bears miss out again, as they did two years ago, on a trip to Pasadena.

• Remaining games: At Arizona (4-5); at No. 7 Southern California (7-1); Stanford (0-9).
