NO. 10 CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS. Cal's bye week turned out to be pretty sweet as it rested the injured players and geared up for a home stretch that could easily be leading the team back to the Rose Bowl 49 years after the last Cal team played there. Cal needs to win three of its last four games, with USC being one of those wins to make it a reality ... that is, unless USC stumbles again in conference play. Then, the Bears could afford to lose to USC and win the other three for the Rose Bowl berth. As if Jeff Tedford didn't need any distractions, the San Francisco Chronicle reported last week that sophomore sensation QB Nate Longshore was contemplating when to go on a *gasp* two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Perhaps he's just planting the seed now so it won't come as a shock after Cal plays in its first ever BCS bowl? He'd have two years eligibility remaining if he left after this season. UCLA visits Berkeley this week and the Bruins are smarting a bit after getting whipped in the second half last week by Washington State. That's the second breakdown in a row after leading at the half the past couple of contests. Still, the Bruins pose the greatest threat to Cal besides USC out of its remaining four games.
