SF Chronicle: Bears try to ignore Vols' history, fans

For Troy Taylor, who holds Cal's record for career passing yards, it was the fans. "The people in Tennessee are really nice with their Southern hospitality, and then you get to the stadium, and they're throwing stuff at you and saying, 'Surf's up,' " said Taylor, the color commentator on Cal's radio broadcasts. For offensive line coach Jim Michalczik, it was the stadium. "I remember looking up at the press box and thinking it was a hotel," he said. "It must have been five stories high, and it went the length of the field.'' For senior guard Tyler Krieg, a transfer from Duke, it was the field. "We played in November, and the grass was immaculate even though they had already played five games on it," he said.
