Oakland Tribune: Cal's loss nauseates Tedford

BERKELEY — One might speculate there's a Trappist monk living inside Jeff Tedford from his placid demeanor. Win or lose, he carries himself with the same equanimity. But he's only calm on the surface. Three days after Tennessee punished his Cal Golden Bears, Tedford was asked how hard the defeat was on him.  "The players are a lot more resilient than I am," he said Tuesday. "There was a trash can outside (Memorial Stadium) at 4 a.m., if that tells you anything. I have a knot in my stomach."  That trash can isn't the first incidence of Tedford's losing more than a football game. He has a history of getting nauseous after a painful defeat, and most defeats to a coach are painful.  The 35-18 trouncing in Knoxville may have hurt the worst, though Tedford wouldn't say. He needs to piece his Cal team back together, because Minnesota's coming to town Saturday, and the Gophers aren't easy either.
