KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — California tailback Marshawn Lynch signed autographs for about two hours straight recently while teammates posed for pictures at a wildly popular fan-appreciation day for the Golden Bears. Expectations are high in Berkeley this season, with many believing Cal could win the Pac-10. But first the ninth-ranked Bears must start the season today at No. 23 Tennessee, where expectations for success are constant and anticipation for each upcoming Southeastern Conference season starts in January. The Volunteers learned last year what a pitfall preseason hype can be. "Expectations are nice to have because it gets attention and gets people out here, but we've always really focused on our own expectations," Cal offensive guard Erik Robertson said. "Not even in the back, but in the front of our minds, we know we have the potential to be a great team, so we're just practicing like a great team."
