Bears to start four potential NFL picks

KNOXVILLE — Brandon Mebane knows the rep. So does Daymeion Hughes and the rest of the California defenders. You know, the one about defense being a mirage in the Pac-10.   "Other than USC, the Pac-10 has never really gotten the credit we should," said Mebane, the Golden Bears' preseason All-America defensive tackle.  "USC has the tradition and has the titles and has the Heisman Trophy winners. The SEC has the same thing. At Cal, we're starting to build some of that stuff, and it starts with building a championship defense. I think we have that."
