Just got done listening to Cal coach Jeff Tedford on the Pac-10 teleconference. Clearly, the Golden Bears achieved the top objective of their camp: Identify a starting quarterback. That would be Kevin Riley, who shuttled in and out of the lineup along with Nate Longshore last year.
Maryland fans might recall Riley for tossing for more than 400 yards in last year's game in College Park --- more than half of it in the fourth quarter. Now, Tedford sees Riley as being even better. "He assumed the role last spring through the summer and it continued through camp," Tedford said. "It wasn't when we named him the starter. It was a natural thing. He really separated himself with his game experience and knowledge."
