Washington Post: Tedford on Maryland's 'Element of Surprise'

Link.

The most interesting thing, in my opinion, that emerged from California Coach Jeff Tedford’s teleconference on Tuesday was his acknowledgment his team will endure an adjustment period dealing with Maryland’s aggressive 4-3 defense. “You just don’t know what to do,” Tedford said. “I know there is going to be an element of surprise there, so you are a little bit uncomfortable going in wondering what is going to happen there because there is no background. … They are not the same team.”

True. This is a very confident and different Maryland defense. We’ll have to see how that translates to the field late Saturday night. I’ll have more on this in a story. How important will this element of surprise be Saturday night?
