ESPN's Pat Forde Ranks Cal #22

Link.

Excerpt:

22. California Golden Bears, selected by Pat Forde

Merely seven straight winning seasons for the Golden Bears, five of them with eight victories or more. Jeff Tedford might be the most underappreciated coach in the country, and this might be his best team. How smart will this pick look in October when unbeaten Cal is hosting unbeaten USC in a matchup with national championship implications?

Ivan Maisel’s Comment: What if you fielded a football team and nobody on your campus cared?

I think Maisel's comment is pretty fair. I remember Mondays in which only a few people in the class knew there was a game over the weekend.

Actually, this was not a preseason ranking. It was a draft of which 40 programs that three ESPN writers would choose if they were allowed to reduce FBS field from 120 teams to 40. I think Mark Schlabach has the most recent preseason rankings on ESPN, and he has Cal at 13 as of May 15.
