SportingNews' Matt Hayes: The Best of the Half Season

Here is the link.

Best offense: California. There's so much at every position. It starts with white-hot QB Nate Longshore and WRs DeSean Jackson and Lavelle Hawkins. It also includes the best backfield combination in the country in TBs Marshawn Lynch and Justin Forsett. The Bears have scored 41 or more points the last five weeks.

Consider this: Jackson, Hawkins, Lynch and Forsett have touched the ball a combined 236 times for 2,375 yards and 22 touchdowns. That's 10.1 yards per touch. Now imagine how good the Tennessee defense is. And for that matter, how strong the SEC is.

Runner-up: West Virginia. Until I see a big-time BCS team stop this offense, I'm a believer. If RB Steve Slaton got the pub some dude named Peterson gets, he'd be swimming in Heisman glory. Or at least wading in it.
