CAL NOTEBOOK

Sophomore Nate Longshore is still Cal's starting quarterback, coach Jeff Tedford announced Tuesday. Making his second collegiate start Saturday, Longshore completed 11 of 20 passes for 85 yards, threw an interception and left the game trailing Tennessee 35-0. "He can play better, but it definitely wasn't on Nate," Tedford said. "Sometimes, he didn't have a chance. Sometimes, when he had protection, there were some dropped balls. Other times, when we got some guys open, he was getting hit as he was throwing." Senior quarterback Joe Ayoob entered the game in the second half. He completed 9 of 22 passes for 187 yards, had two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing) and threw an interception.
