Pioneer Press: Cal's Marshawn Lynch can't escape Heisman talk as he prepares for Gophers

Big man on Bears

BY JOHN SHIPLEY

Marshawn Lynch contends he hasn't watched much Minnesota football, just a little film "to see how their linebackers flow to the ball" in preparation for Saturday's game in Berkeley, Calif.

He has, however, acquainted himself with one Laurence Maroney. "I like that dude," Lynch said Tuesday. "Great back." Had Maroney stuck around for his senior season, Saturday's game between the Gophers and the California Bears could have been one of the season's great head-to-head battles between Heisman Trophy candidates. Instead, Lynch will absorb the spotlight all by himself. It doesn't seem to faze him much, but he doesn't like it all that much, either. He will step onto Berkeley's Memorial Stadium turf carrying an aggressive Heisman campaign that includes a full-color brochure sent to media members and his own Web site, marshawn10.com.
