Oakland Tribune: Cal vs. Tennessee

THE GAME: Cal (0-0) vs. Tennessee (0-0) at Neyland Stadium, Knoxville, Tenn., 2:30 p.m. PDT. TV: ESPN. Radio: 810. THE HISTORY: Series is tied, 1-1. Cal won 27-17 in 1977, Tennessee won 38-12 in 1987, both games in Knoxville.
CAL OUTLOOK: The Bears must pressure Vols quarterback Erik Ainge, who rattles when hit. Cal has swift linebackers who can blitz Tennessee's cumbersome offensive line. On offense, look for Jeff Tedford to hit Tennessee from all directions, trying to break down the Vols with speed and creativity. For Cal truly to make a statement, Marshawn Lynch and DeSean Jackson must establish field position on kickoff/punt returns.
TENNESSEE OUTLOOK: The Vols have that huge offensive front, and they're planning to use Cal's defense as a highway to those checkerboard end zones. Arian Foster and Montario Hardesty are very capable tailbacks, and Tennessee feels the Pac-10 plays inferior defense, so it will be pounding the ball at Cal. Defensively, the Vols are licking their chops to get after Cal's stationary quarterback, Nate Longshore.
THE LINE: Cal by 21/2.
