The two games that I was most concerned about this season were Oregon and USC. (I’m a life-long Cal fan, so I’m worried about every game, even Eastern Washington, just not as much as Oregon and SC.) I watched last night’s Oregon-Boise State game and was a bit shocked at how bad Oregon looked. They didn’t get a first down until the third quarter, and the defense looked confused throughout the game. It could have been a case of opening game jitters in front of a hostile stadium against a ranked team, but I suspect there is more going on there, and it has something to do with their new coach. In any event, travelling to Eugene is never a cake walk, but I’m not as concerned as I was. Adding to my easing anxiety is today’s announcement that LeGarrette Blount has been suspended for the season. While his stats last night were weak, last year he rushed for 17 touchdowns and over 1,000 yards. He only had 1 yard against Cal, but he definitely has (had) the ability to be a game changer.
I’ve watched the video several times, and I’m not saying the Boise State player deserved to get punched in the face. But he was definitely taunting LeGarrette, so he was kind of asking for some response. LeGarrette definitely wiped the stupid smile off of his face.
