Contra Costa Times: Lynch does his bit, but Bears need more

EUGENE, Ore. - After rushing for 189 yards, a career high, Marshawn Lynch was not about to say he tried to single-handedly carry Cal out of Autzen Stadium with a victory Saturday. He was, though, the Bears' only effective offensive player on a wet, cold afternoon that ended with Oregon winning 27-20 in overtime. Cal's 301 yards was a poor output for a Jeff Tedford-coached offense; quarterback Joe Ayoob passed for just 88 yards. One of Cal's two touchdowns was set up by Thomas DeCoud's punt block; the ball went out of bounds at Oregon's 1-yard line in the first quarter. Lynch carried into the end zone on the ensuing play. The Ducks knew Lynch was the main weapon, and they often loaded up at the line of scrimmage. They could not stop him, but they did enough. ``One person can't make a team,'' said Lynch, who has hit his stride, with 349 yards rushing the past two games. ``You can't put this on Joe. If you are going to put it on him, you might as well put it on me as well.'' Ayoob had a different opinion. ``Marshawn almost took us out of there single-handedly,'' he said. ``He had a great game. I didn't have a great day. I put this loss on myself.''

Cal's defense played well considering two of Oregon's three touchdowns came on drives of 25 or fewer yards. Defensive end Nu'u Tafisi made four tackles for loss, including 1 1/2 sacks. Linebacker Desmond Bishop led the team with nine tackles, and sophomore cornerback Brandon Hampton had the first interception of his career.
