Calbears.com: Cal Practices for 23 Periods on Monday Morning

Bears decide not to hold afternoon session

After practicing for 23 periods in shells on Monday morning, the California football coaching staff rewarded the team by not holding an afternoon practice.  Cal continued to sharpen its offensive and defensive repetitions in the early session, conducting 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills. Some of the offensive highlights saw quarterback Nate Longshore hook up with wide receiver Robert Jordan for a long gain, and freshman running back Jahvid Best darting thru holes for good yardage. Defensively, linebacker Justin Moye almost came up with an interception on a nice coverage read, while defensive end Tad Smith showed a lot of explosion off the snap to disrupt the quarterback.   The Bears also addressed special teams drills such as punt formations and coverage and field goal blocking schemes.   Cal resumes practice tomorrow with an afternoon session in Memorial Stadium.
