AP: Vols run through Cal scouting report to prep for next week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee's backup squads donned navy blue jerseys Thursday and began running through Golden Bear schemes as coach Phillip Fulmer focused on the Sept. 1 opener at No. 12 California.  "We're in game mode at this point," Fulmer said. "We're not looking for guys jumping around because of emotions. I'm looking for guys doing their business on the practice field."  "We gave the preliminary scouting report on Cal, and started real business," he said.

Junior linebacker Ellix Wilson was back in practice ater sitting out the last two weeks with a strained knee. Despite his long absence, Wilson will travel with the team to Berkeley and will work his way into the rotation behind the starting three.

Senior tight end Brad Cottam was at practice with his left arm wrapped up following wrist surgery. His absence has mixed up the plans the coaching staff had for the position, as freshman Kevin Cooper will likely remain a part of roster and see action during the season.
