Contra Costa Times: Ready or not, it's Pac-10

Tedford has settled on Longshore to guide Cal through the season but the offensive line and secondary concern him

BERKELEY - Cal football coach Jeff Tedford was firm following his team's 42-16 rout of Portland State on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. "We've found our quarterback," he said in reference to the fine play of sophomore Nate Longshore. Thank goodness, since it's apparent that the Golden Bears (2-1) have some other important issues as they head into a severe test on Saturday against visiting Arizona State (3-0).

Issues? Try some of these.

• Can an already rebuilt offensive line withstand the series of injuries that has plagued it through the first three games?

• Can a secondary which returns only one starter stop giving up big plays?

• Will a team that keeps hurting itself with penalties suddenly transform now that Pac-10 Conference play is set to begin?

• Will a still-evolving offense be effective in conference play?
