Lindy's Sports: Keep an Eye on the Golden Bears as a Sleeper Team

By Jon Wilner

The Bears will enter training camp with more questions at the skill positions than they've had in years — maybe in the entire Jeff Tedford era.  The biggest unknown, of course, is at quarterback, where Armed Forces Bowl star Kevin Riley and two-year starter Nate Longshore will duel well into camp. Tedford might not name a starter until the week of the opener.

What was expected to be a fierce spring competition fizzled when Longshore pulled a pectoral muscle and had to shut it down. He had played well until then, while Riley finished strong.  The tailback situation is murky because of Justin Forsett's departure, James Montgomery's transfer and Jahvid Best's hip injury. Tedford believes Best will be healthy for the season. But even if that's the case and Best retains his blazing speed, the sophomore had just 29 carries last season.
