Sacramento State received some good news Thursday when the NCAA declared quarterback Chris Hurd eligible to play this season.
Hurd, a transfer from Washington State and Texas-El Paso, needed a waiver from the NCAA because he is attending his third four-year school.
"It's been a tough couple weeks here just waiting for this whole thing to go through," Hurd said. "It's a load off."
Hornets coach Steve Mooshagian said Hurd would share time with returning backup Brad Tredway in Saturday's season opener at Cal.
"That way we'll get them both game experience," said Mooshagian, who indicated Tredway would likely take the first snap.
"I'm not concerned about having a true starter until Game No. 3 when we have our Big Sky opener at Portland State." Quarterbacks Tim Bessolo and Crosby Wehr also are scheduled to make the trip to Berkeley. Chris Cavendar, who had been one of five quarterbacks competing for playing time, has been moved to wide receiver.
