QB Kevin Riley looked poised in Cal's 52-13 dismantling of Maryland. Riley completed 17 of 26 passes (.654) for 298 yards and four TDs with no interceptions. Riley earned Pac-10 offensive player of the week for his performance. . . . Riley's backfield mate TB Jahvid Best looked in mid-season form vs. Maryland averaging 13.7 yards per carry on just 10 carries. Two of them went for TDs, including a 73-yard dash to open the game's scoring. . . . Bear offense was in high gear and balanced in going for 542 yards total offense--244 rushing and 298 passing. Plus Cal had an impressive zero turnovers in season opener. . . . Cal has never lost a home opener under coach Jeff Tedford with Maryland win extending that streak to eight in a row. . . . Cal's secondary returned intact from last year. They surrendered only 12 TD passes in 13 games last year and allowed none to Maryland in the opener.
