ESPN: California careful with Best course of action

The Best-case scenario is California running back Jahvid Best will return to practice next week in preparation for the Bears visit to Arizona on Oct. 18.  But coach Jeff Tedford was cautious assessing how quickly Best will recover from his dislocated elbow. "All the signs are very positive," Tedford said. "But there is still a ways to go." Best will start lifting weights later this week and catching passes over the weekend, but he won't return to contact work -- at best -- until early next week.

What might help Best stay healthy is the Bears offensive line finding some continuity. Down two starters -- tackle Mike Tepper (pec) and guard Chris Guarnero (toe) -- the coaches have been forced to switch some players around, looking for the right combination. "They're doing OK. There's room for improvement," Tedford said. "We're still finding ourselves a little bit."
