Information re: Campaign to Stop the Stadium Lawsuit

The following is the text of an email that has been circulating from concerned alums:

In an attempt to convince the Berkeley City Council to vote to stop the lawsuit at its Sept. 11 meeting, here's the latest thing that Berkeleyans for Cal Athletics can do NOW:

There is a local, independent citizen group site that explores and polls local issues called KitchenDemocracy.org.  The Student-Athlete Center has just been selected as one of the issues to vote on. The final tally will be (as it has been in the past) presented to the City Council, who have historically put significant weight on the results when casting their own votes.  Although the voting has just begun and currently shows our position in the majority, opponents of the project and their organizations are also

responding.   It is up to you to vote and encourage others to do so. We

are asking members of Berkeleyans for Cal Athletics to:

SIGN ON TO KITCHEN DEMOCRACY (www.kitchendemocracy.org)  IF YOU ARE NOT NOW A MEMBER, REGISTER TO BE A MEMBER.

VOTE AND ADD YOUR COMMENTS.

CONTACT FRIENDS IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO DO THE SAME.

This should be done ASAP!  The end result is trying to impress the City Council to withdraw their lawsuit at their September 11 meeting. Some council members are beginning to hear our message and are leaning toward that possibility, but we need numbers!  Thanks.
