Daily Trojan: The rest of the Pacific-10 Conference: How they stack up

Here is the link.

Cal

Last year: 10-3, 7-2 Pac-10. Defeated Texas A&M in Holiday Bowl

Key losses: RB Marshawn Lynch, DT Brandon Mebane, LB Desmond Bishop, CB Daymeion Hughes

Key newcomers: RB Jahvid Best, RB Shane Vereen, OL Matt Summers-Gavin

Offense: Jeff Tedford's offenses annually rank as one of the best in the nation and this year looks to be no different. The Golden Bears have one of the most talented receiver trios in the country with DeSean Jackson, Robert Jordan and Lavelle Hawkins all returning. Running back Justin Forsett will earn the lion's share of the departed Lynch's carries.

Defense: Cal loses its three biggest defensive playmakers from last year in Mebane, Bishop and Hughes. The new-look defense will be young and inexperienced with only five starters returning and only two senior starters. Cornerbacks Syd'Quan Thompson and Darian Hagan will have to mend last year's tendency to give up deep passes at times.

Bottom Line: The Golden Bears are so loaded offensively that they can keep up with almost any team in a high scoring game. But if the offense stumbles, as it did last year against Tennessee, the defense will have to mature quickly. Despite a tough schedule, Tedford's team should compete for a conference title.

Predicted Record: 10-2

I like how the USC version of the Pac-10 breakdown...

1. Still has Sammie Stroughter playing for Oregon State; and

2. Fails to include Stanford. You'd think with Harbaugh crawling so far up Pete Carroll's ass, they'd be given SOME shot at #2 in the conference.

Gotta love the top-notch journalism practiced at The Daily Trojan.
