SF Examiner: Riley looks sharp in camp - Day 9 morning notes

By Rob Calogne

The early start time for the morning session was perfectly scheduled for the weather. Unlike the cool evening weather the night before, Saturday morning was very warm--suntan lotion warm.  Today we were treated to crowd noise, officiating, and situational 11-on-11 practice. It was the first practice of Cal's first of three two-a-days this camp.

The first-team linemen, (or the linemen that were lined up first): Mike Tepper (LT), Matt Summers-Gavin (LG), Chris Guarnero (OC), Justin Cheadle (RG), and Mitchell Schwartz (RT). It's far too early to have a set depth chart and some of the slotting could be due to some guys getting more rest than others.  "Most of the time," Coach Tedford explained, "They're slash one's two's.  It's not like a four is taking rep's with the one's."  While the quarterbacks worked with the receivers, there were a couple of nice catches.  The best catch was one by Marvin Jones where he was able to use one hand to prevent a high pass from going incomplete.  The ball was sailing overhead when he stuck his left arm up, and pulled it down far enough to make a two-handed catch.
