Oregon Register Guard: Looking Past Bowls into Crystal Ball For 2009

Link.

Excerpt:

California

Nine offensive starters return, assuming Kevin Riley is counted as the No. 1 quarterback. So Bears will have to find someone to take Nate Longshore’s place to blame for offensive foibles. Notable loss is center Alex Mack, maybe the Pac-10’s best in offensive front line.

The seven defensive starters returning don’t include playmaking linebackers Zack Follett and Worrell Williams, but that was a deep group for Golden Bears. Also back are punter and kicker, though an upgrade at either/both wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Challenging early schedule. Draw Maryland at home for opener, then go to Minnesota. Finish September with trip to Oregon and start October with USC. Come out of that unscathed and it could be a BCS run for Bears.

OK, big if …
