Rodgers Fails to Impress at Combine Interview

New York Post:
LOSING COMBINE-ATION By KEN PALMER
ALL ON THE LINE: March 6, 2005 -- GIVEN an opportunity to make a run at the top spot in the upcoming NFL Draft, neither of the nation's two premier quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers of California and Utah's Alex Smith, nor receiver Mike Williams, did anything to blow away anyone last week at the scouting combine in Indianapolis.
With scouts watching, some NFL Draft hopefuls struggled to impress while others starred at combine in Indianapolis.
According to an NFL source who sat in on interviews with Rodgers and Smith, "They both came across well, but neither got me fired up as far as being a leader or a take-charge kind of guy." Besides Rodgers and Smith, neither of whom worked out at the combine, it was "the worst group of QBs ever," the source said. That's an indictment on Miami's Brock Berlin, Akron's Charlie Frye and UConn's Dan Orlovsky, among others. As for Williams, who last played for USC during the 2003 season, one NFL scout said, "He kind of came across as an actor. The rap on him is he's hard to deal with and I can definitely see that being there." Hands down, according to several sources, the worst interviewee was West Virginia receiver Chris Henry, who was suspended twice by his coach last season. "He came across as just a miserable person," one NFL team official said. "He's not smart and seemed to blame everyone else for his problems." The presence of the NFL Network certainly helped participation at the combine, which was higher than usual, and it added another twist.
