Errant pass. Dropped pass. Missed assignment before a pass could be thrown. Pick a drill, and that was pretty much the story of Cal's practice after an 11-day layoff for spring break. The Bears resumed practice Tuesday with shoddy offensive results, but they hope to straighten the kinks in the next three weeks.
"Historically, this is the rustiest day of spring because people have been on vacation and some have done more than others during the time off," coach Jeff Tedford said. "I anticipate that Thursday will be sharper."
Cal practices again Thursday, its last tuneup for Saturday's closed scrimmage. Third- and even fourth-stringers are getting about equal repetitions as the assumed starters, so no depth-chart decisions have been made. Right now, there appears to be little difference between the first- and third-teamers. They all are playing as though they're equally ill-equipped. "There are a lot of mistakes, but that's what spring is about," Tedford said.
